{Unfake Las Vegas Elopement} Joey & Jennifer, Rock-a-Billy Retro Style

Before The Candyman and I got engaged, we had a serious discussion about elopement. I was 38, he was 35. I mean, really? Me? A Bride?

Fucking, please.

But then when we talked more about marriage, our future life together, what it all meant and most importantly, what is meant to us.

I encourage the newly engaged and pre-engaged wedding blog junkies to really think about what you want. Not what your family wants or expects. Not what you think other people expect of you. What do you and your beloved want? Don’t be a douchebag. THINK about it.

While I applaud the bride for responding to her emotions and doing what was right for her and her now-husband,  I’ll bet there was a lot of time, money and effort put into her first wedding. I’ll bet feelings were hurt.

Thant’s why I want you to think about what you want. When the shit hits the fan, think about the importance stuff, NOT the place cards or bridesmaids gowns, or the bitchy guest who wants to bring her 2 year old to your clearly indicated, ‘no kids’ wedding.

So here’s to the couple who thought it through.

Welcome to the Unfake Elopement

We chose an elopement over a regular wedding because it was a lot more lenient. I say this because the year before, we had a huge wedding planned: flowers, photographer, DJ, huge venue, dresses bought for bridesmaids, huge dress for me, decorations, caterer, flower girl dresses were handmade, honeymoon paid for, guest list of 200, family flying in from out of state and all invitations sent out .....

All to be followed up with a phone call to '”please disregard the invites.” Why?  Because I got cold feet and cancelled the wedding. Too much pressure, anxiety, and unsure feelings. This being my second marriage, I was scared out of my mind.

We knew we were right for each other and decided to escape to Las Vegas. We packed everything we’d possibly need for a wedding in a carry on bag that we secretly named "the possibility bag.” Meaning, there was a possibility we would use.  Or not.

In the end, we took the plunge. Nobody knew we were to marry. It felt right and we eloped. There was no pressure and if I had a chance to do it all over again,  I would choose an elopement for sure!!
